There are fields in which dependable, reliable and predictable systems are critical to safety. These safety-critical systems can be found in a variety of fields, such as in defence, aviation, medical and other fields that have control systems. Many of these systems are controlled through the use of human-control interfaces. However the interface design can lead to errors resulting in catastrophic consequences. Adaptable user interfaces are touted to be an improvement to fixed user interfaces, providing flexibility to user requiring or desiring a more customized experience which can result in greater productivity, reduction in errors, and an ability to make more timely and higher quality decisions.
