ABSTRACT The design of medical devices has a direct impact on how caregivers conduct their daily chores. Users recognize design, which considers the clinical setting, where the device is operated and whether it is consistent with the workflow. However, if the design does not fit, the safety of the patient might be compromised. In this review, current practice as it is related to user-centred design (UCD) within the medical device context, should focus on end-user feedback mechanisms adopted in post-market and pre-market stages of the device lifecycle.
